My husband and I live apart. We sold our house last year and out of the proceeds he paid the conveyancing bills and gave me an extra £20,000.00 to enable me to purchase a flat in my sole name and have some savings. He lives with family at the moment. We have not discussed divorce and I am quite happy to leave things as there are for now. However, should he get into financial difficulty in the future or go bankrupt for any reason, as we are not divorced, would I be implicated in that in any way?

You would not be liable for his debts unless your name was on the debt or unless you jointly entered into the debt together with him.

Hope this helps

Thank you - I do not have any joint debts with him. I want peace of mind as far as my finances and especially my home are concerned.

You do not need to worry and you are quite right to be concerned.

All the best
