If one of us remarries after we have got divorced how does

Customer Question

If one of us remarries after we have got divorced how does that affect any maintenance or CSA payments in the future. If he remarries and has children with his new partner how does that affect the ex spouse and his children from his first marriage?

Thank you for your question.
My name is Clare and I will do my best to help you
The remarriage of either part has no effect on child maintenance whatsoever
If the paying parent takes on responsibility for further children (whether his own or his partner's) then there is a reduction in the CSA assessment to reflect that responsibility
This is done by discounting the amount of income that is available for assessment - by 12% for one child 16% for two and 20% for three or more
I hope that this is of assistance - please ask if you need further details
