Would a girlfriend of 6 years, be entitled to a payoff. They've been living together in a rented house, with the girlfriend not contributing anything to rent, bills etc.

Thanks for your question.

Are there any children of the relationship?

Kind regards,

Then, no, absolutely not.

If they are unmarried, in rented accomodation and there are no other agreements between them which mean that he owes her some money then she has no chance of a pay off.

It changes once couples are married, of course, but there is no such thing as a common law wife. The treatment of unmarried couples is VASTLY different to the treatment of married couples under law.

He would not owe the girlfriend any money unless he already owed her money before they broke up (eg if he had taken a loan from her).

Kind regards,
