I had the FDA today regarding my application to vary maintenance

This answer was rated:

I had the FDA today regarding my application to vary maintenance payments.
My ex-wife's barrister took me aside and told me that as the Applicant it was incumbent on me to start making proposals (even before FDR).
Am i under any obligation/expectation to do so?
Thank you for your question.

Yes there is an expectation that you make some offer to settle - it is your application to vary so you need to make it clear what variation you are looking for.
Failure to do so could be reflected in a coss order

and when in the process am i expected to do so - before the fdr ?

It would be sensible to do it as early as possible to allow proper consideration of the proposals - it would NOT be wise to leave it to the FDR.
