If there was a costs order in the father's favour then the mother is liable.
Generally speaking in civil law a person is entitled to his costs if he wins.
There is no defence in saying that a person is a mother or was acting in a good but misguided cause.
If a matter has been contested and lost then that person is liable for the other side's costs.
Sorry if that is bad news.
