I have been married for 4 years but have been together for

Customer Question

I have been married for 4 years but have been together for 15 years. My wife some 8 weeks ago told me we had drifted apart and she would like to split. This was a great shock and one I never expected. 3 years ago her father died and left a flat and a house to her and her sister and also a lump sum. My wife has never discussed any of this since but I do suspect it is something to do with this horrible situation. I am under pressure to sell up and move elsewhere. It was my house originally and to be fair she paid off the remaining mortgage. I have no money to speak of and being 75 years of age are not likely to get any other than my pension. I have looked at some flats etc but have not found anywhere near suitable. My question is, what rights do I have and can I be forced out of our joint home.

Thank you for your question

My name is Clare

I shall do my best to help you but I need some further information first

How much is your property worth?

What is the value of the assets your wife inherited?

How old is your wife?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
House valued at £265K, My wife has never discussed her inheritance. I guess the flat was sold for about £130K and the house which she rents out with her sister is about £450 each for each month.
She will be 67 in October

I would estimate the house is worth £300K

Sorry - the £300,000 is that the house that your wife and her sister own?

How much would a one bedroom property in the same general area cost to buy?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the house is owned by my wife and her sister. The house we live in is 2 bedroom detached. I can not find anywhere suitable under £150K and that is a 1 bedroom property. I have very little money of my own apart from some small; savings.

My wife would really like to stay here and for me to go.
Expert:  Clare replied 1 year ago.

Just to be clear.

The only joint asset is worth £265,000

Your wife also has assets worth over £200,000 in her sole name

Is that correct?
