Can it be blackmail if someone wants me to do something

Customer Question

Can it be blackmail if someone wants me to do something (take care of our son)?
She is threatening me by giving our son "to the authorities" and kicking out a tenant who lives in our flat.
She is also demanding the proceeds from that tenant.

Hi, I'm Lea

Can you explain a bit more about what is going on?

Customer: replied 5 days ago.
I mainly want to know if blackmail always means the blackmailer is asking for money.
Expert:  SASH_Law replied 5 days ago.

The legal definition of blackmail is (Section 21 of the Theft Act 1968), when one makes unwarranted demands with menaces in order to attain personal gain or project loss on another.

If that is blackmail, what can I do?
Expert:  SASH_Law replied 5 days ago.

Well, blackmail is a crime, so you can report it to the police.

However, asking you to take care of your child is not blackmail.

Throwing out the tenants if it causes you financial loss might be blackmail.
