I have a Ford Transit Connect LX TDCI LWB 1.7cc Diesel. and

have been having a problem... Show More
have been having a problem with the enging cutting out, it used to do it occasionaly but now starts to die after 4-5 miles and then keeps cutting out every mile it then restarts almost imediatley but after a while needs towait longer to restart. I have sent it to a garage who have changed the fuel filter and say it might be the fuse box which shows some signs of water damage/green corrosion.

Ok does the glow plug light start flashing when the vehicle cuts out
Does it flash when you are trying to restart the vehicle

Has a diagnostic fault code check been carried out if so what we're the results

I dont't think the glowplug flashes, everything dies including the fuel dial


no no diagnosticts have been done


Hi there ,good morning to you

Ok the First thing that should be done before going any further is a diagnostic fault code check of the PCM
This is imperative to correctly diagnosing this fault right first time and saving you a lot of time and Money
As misdiagnosis of this engine can be expensive
The engine management system is very complex and technical on this 1.8TDCI
Thus why a fault code is an absolute must when diagnosis faults


Common faults regarding connects cutting out completley are camshaft sensor failures and injectors shorting out internally
This will be clarified clearer once a fault code check has been done as without a fault code
You can end up going down the wrong diagnostic route costing unneeded time and money

They had done a diagnostics check which showed up nothing, they are still thinking it is the coroded fuse board

Ok at least that rules out Sensors etc
The transit connects didn't suffer from fuse box issues but if you have a poor connection on andIn feed /earth or important relay it could cause this issue

In instances like yours a wiggle test of the wiring should be carried out
This can be ignored by technicians but is a really good check for connection -wiring issues

The garage is still having a problem with the fault, it still stalls after driving a short while at high revs but will tick over happily, they have cleaned all the fuse and relay connections but made no change, any ideas
