if the car is realtively modern ( you've put 1963 - which I don't think is right) then there's no chance of any damage by leaving the ignition on for long periods

other than of course you'll run down the battery as the current drain with ignition on is about a 2-3 amps which is enough to flatten the battery in about 3 hours

if the car is old enough to have a distributor and seperate coil then you can damage the ignition coil by leaving the ignition on as it'll overheat
