providing the engine isn't locked up due to some internal damage then it should cause no damage at all

bump starting (where the vehicle is pushed or towed and you drop the clutch to spin over the engine) is no different to using the engine to slow the van down

the mechanic said the timeing was out and had jumped about 3 teeth and this had caused to much damaged it is a high mileage durotourq 2.4 engine 220000 the van had to be put on the back of a low loader it was on a slight slope I put it in first and stalled twice just to get it rolling and then I coasted down to the low loader
