Customer: He came over to Scotland at some point and married but we know nothing more about when he left Armagh

How long do I need to wait? I assume Hugh left Armagh as a young man for Liverpool then travelled up to South Ayrshire.

I asked you if you thought the record you sent was the correct one because I don’t think the Hugh who married Annie was catholic.

Hello there,

I did not know what religion he was, the baptism in Donegal was Church of Ireland.

There is a tree on Ancestry that says he was born in Lanark, Scotland

We have a record saying he came from Ireland and recent DNA suggesting Irish heritage.

Hello there,

The only you will be sure is to get the reading of the banns before he got married in Scotland.

That should give his fathers name, also the name of his first born son may give a clue,

naming convention early 1800's and later was pretty strict.
