Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. We’ll get started chatting here. If you’d prefer support beyond the chat format, you may also reach me directly via phone or a remote support session. I’ll send an additional services offer for these options - feel free to ignore it for now, it will be available to you at any time during or after our conversation.
Well, you have a few options here,
One would be to leave it connected to the tv, and run a separate optical cable from the tv back to the denon for audio
the other is to adjust the input mode/assignment of the denon to match the port used.
For example, the input you're using may be defaulting to an optical/coax input
you'd need to go into the setup menu, into Digital Input Assign, and set your input port to hdmi (rather than opt/coax)
Hi, the only option for me is to configure the denon - is this possible ?
You can also then set the input MODE to hdmi (rather than digital, or auto)
I did that
Yes, these settings are adjusted quite easily from the setup menu
if it isn't working, then you can try a different connection, such as optical out of the media box to the denon (say on cable/sat mode)
could I call u and u walk me through it?
if that still doesn't work, then the issue is an incompatibility between the denon and the box, meaning the denon isn't decoding the audio stream properly
You could, yes, but I'm in the US, and I do not have a toll free number.
noi problem
by default though, that HDP port should be looking for hdmi audio.
can you initially try setting the denon on the HDP input
and then hit the small INPUT MODE button on the front, repeatedly, until it comes up to HDMI as the selection
I think I already did this
let me check and take a screenshot
ok
thanks
so that does look like it is properly defaulting to hdmi audio
and you say you did get audio when the box was plugged directly to the tv?
or you never had sound out of the box at all?
no audio when plugged to TV
okay so that isn't going to be a denon issue then, it is something with the box
but that's I guess because tv sound is off
does this box have an actual hdmi port on it?
yes
Or is it a dvi port?
hrmi to hdmi
Ok did you check that input mode button I mentioned earlier?
If still no luck there, then the next step would be to enable the tv speakers (temporarily) and test the box direct to the tv. If still no sound that way, it would at least isolate this as being an issue with the box and not the denon or tv
I thought that's what I did
can you tell me the make/model of the media box?
the screen you sent is the input assignment
there is also input mode (an actual button on the front)
they work a bit differently though
because you can have multiple connections for some devices, and in some cases with a multizone setup you may have both analog and digital connections in place
just says MAG250
so both the input assign which you already did, and the input mode need to be set
small black box with HDMI and Ethernet cable port
Okay, well it looks like this box does have an optical port
let me check input mode
so the mag250 should work?
can you try using an optical cable to the denon (you'd need to use a different port, say tv, just to test initially). If that works, then we can adjust the input assign to associate the optical with HDP input
what is an optical cable?
Fiber optic
don't have one of those
see that little gray square port to the right of the hdmi
you don't have this?
not the cablke
but you have the port
that is the important thing here
you'd have to get one of the cables,
but I don't really see any other option at this point
so hdmi will niot work?
because it appears that for whatever reason the hdmi output is not working
it should, the box is built for it
let me check the 2nd thing u asked
but it may be a firmware issue
nothing coming out when I git HDP
hit
no soiund or pic
looks like we cannot solve this
all of your settings are correc
damn
can you try the box directly to the tv via hdmi (with tv speakers enabled)?
at least then we'll know if it's just the box not outputting hdmi audio
already seen that pic works
i mean hdmi audio
audio not but tried to get sound on TV but failed
ah
could not find a way of getting to output sound
tried a few obvious buttons
then it is an issue with the box not outputting hdmi audio
I don't know that you can "fix" that,
but there is the workaround method of using the optical connection instead
you just have to go buy an optical cable, which is only about $5
so optical from denon to mag250
can u show me what the end looks like
sure
you can order these online, or get at most any store that sells electronics, computers, etc
it will be called an optical, fiber optic, or toslink cable
and the denon takes this
so if I get this what do I need to configure
yes there are 2 on the denon, just to the lower right of the hdmi
and how does the picture compare to hdmi?
exact same thing as you did before,
under HDP, but instead of HDMI under the input assign you choose digi
this is for audio only
you keep the existing hdmi cable in place for video
so I have to connect the hdmi to tv directly?
you're using optical for audio only, it is a full bandwidth digital connection, it is equal to hdmi
but I don't want to go directly from digibox to tv
I want to go through denon
for picture and sound
You wouldn't be connecting to the tv at all
You will use 2 cords from the box to the denon
hdmi for video, optical for audio
but no picture is working so why would it work with an optical audio?
if both come from denon
Because it is a different type of connection and processed differently.
You're getting video via the denon through hdmni
*hdmi
no pictiure at all
optical is separating out the audio to a separate connection, since hdmi audio isn't working
I think we miscommuncated
I thought this entire time that you were getting picture, but no sound
nooooooooooo
ok that is something entirely different then
that was direct from mag250 to tv via hdmi
if you aren't even getting video through the denon hdmi
I am getting no pic or sound
then the hdcp functions of the box are not compatible with the denon
there is one thing you can try for that
can I change the mag box
power everything off
then turn on tv first, denon 2nd, and box last (unplug power to box, then back in)
ok will try now
I'm sure there are similar devices that will do the job, but most of them are probably not fully hdcp compliant either, due to the nature of the content
there is one other way around it, which is to buy a hdmi edid cloning device to put inline between the denon and the box
they are somewhat expensive, but it is about the only guaranteed way to make it work, other than using the split connections to the tv and the denon
tried it but no change
no pic or sound
okay, that is an hdcp incompatibility then,
basically, that means that the box cannot identify the tv as a secure display when passed through the denon
the only way around that is either the split connection (hdmi to tv, optical to denon), or passed through the device I just sent a link to
ok thanks - not easy - will try the optical cable next and then get a telly with more than 1 HDMI input
Oh you only have 1 hdmi port?
There are also hdmi switch boxes you could use
they are pretty cheap, certainly less than a new tv
If wiring is an issue, such as with a wall mounted tv that has the hdmi cable buried in the wall, you could put the box at the output of the denon, so just a single hdmi cable to the tv, with denon feeding into the switch, and also with the box into the switch
thanks - more challenges ahead then
You're welcome, and sorry there isn't a simpler option here.

Thank you, ***** ***** a good day,Nathan
thx and u 2 - well my problem is not solved so cant give an excellent im afraid
Well I am confident the solutions I've offered will fix the problem, it just isn't as simple as changing a setting, which is due to the box really. That is outside either of our control.
true - u get an excellent them
