Customer Question

I have a 13.3 gypsy cob 19 yrs old. Been getting stiff but on Thursday had to be helped to stand and move around. Local vet came out to check him out. Normal temp...increased heart rate. Stiff back legs. Vet gave painkiller injection and we followed it up with I sachet of Bute. He didn't drink for 24 hrs...has become increasingly stiff and now front legs look like the stance of a pony with laminitis...back also aches when trying to move. I rang the vet who didn't think it was laminitis and he wouldn't get worse if on Bute. front feet warmish. .. can you perhaps suggest anything else which maybe developing... the vet locally said they cant suggest anything and advised me to get further advise. Thanks Jessica.

Sorry to hear about Toby.

I've got a few questions to help me answer more accurately...

How much does Toby weigh?

What is his body condition (thin, perfect, fat)?

What has his diet been previously (paddock, pasture, hay, etc)?

Does one sachet contain one gram?

You didn't mention hoof testers or x-rays... were either done?

Has he done anything remotely like this before (even slightly)?

Your description sure does sound like laminitis, and horses/ponies with laminitis certainly can get worse while on anti-inflammatories.

I'll keep checking back in for your reply,
