Customer Question

Good evening
JA: Hi. How can I help?
Customer: My name is ***** ***** have a uk permanent resident permit but have been in and out of the UK after my mum's funeral October 2020. I'm yet to apply for the settlement status. Can I still travel with my residence card?
JA: What steps have you taken? Have you filed any paperwork with the UK government? What country do you live in? What is your citizenship?
Customer: I'm presently in Nigeria as I have been sorting my mum's house. I was in the UK from June to August this year and came back to continue sorting my mum's things out so I have not applied for any of those
JA: Have you talked to a lawyer about this?
Customer: Not yet, as I'm just regaining myself from the loss of my mum
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: Okay. Thank you

Hi, Welcome to JA

If you already have a permanent residence document, it is no longer valid.

However, you can still use it at the border to enter the UK if:

  • you have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
  • you applied to the EU Settlement Scheme by 30 June 2021

Does that mean I can not enter the UK now?
Expert:  Lawyer21 replied 22 days ago.

Yes that is correct

how to I go back please?

You may still apply explaining the reason why you did not apply before the deadline

If you did not know you could apply to the scheme while having ILE or ILR, this counts as ‘reasonable grounds’ for not applying by the deadline. This may still apply for having a permanent residence permit
