Can I apply for British passport with my leave to remain ID because my spouse is British? Or is it a must to get ILR? I lived in UK for almost five years.

You must have ILR before you would qualify for British Citizenship.

But I have been advised by a lawyer I shouldn’t wait for the ILR to apply for British passport because my spouse is British and the only thing I need is to live in the UK for five years. What do you say?
