Buachaill :

1. A garda search will reveal all previous convictions. This is because there is no such thing as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, as exists in the UK whereby convictions become spent after seven years. Barry Andrews TD attempted to introduce such a Bill in the Dail during the last Dail, but the Bill never got beyond the Second stage procedure. As a result, all convictions continue to show up when Garda vetting is done. As a result, you should fill it in on your Garda vetting form as it will show up. However, you will not loose your job at this stage, 25 years later, over this prior conviction. It is an event long in the past and is no longer relevant to your ability to do your job.
