Customer Question

I recently broke down because I could not steer the car and the front offside wheel was very hot, garage came out and said it was brake problem so RAC took car to garage I use.
They said that it was caused by a stone stuck in back plate. The car is now repaired but I have been told by several people that it is impossible for a stone to get stuck in back plate. Can you tell me which is correct please.

Hello its not impossible for a small stone to stick between the disc and backing plate its unusual, but not impossibleI'd ask the garage what they had to change / replace to fix the sticking brakes ? as ideally you would have stripped the caliper down, cleaned up all the pad mounting faces and possibly replaced the pads and disc
