Name is***** goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back,
You need to have the Jeep connected to a scan tool and check for malfunction codes . if the check engine light was on but now off there will be a stored malfunction code or codes in the system.
Your Engine is running very rich due to a possible fuel injection error giving too much fuel or a restriction of air, again a diagnostic scan and live data check will confirm this .
What you could do first is basic checks for air restrictions at the air intake ,block air filter, intake restriction on air box intake etc,
If all clean and has good air intake have the car hooked up and check for codes ,this will let you know what is malfunctioning .
One common problem with this engine is fuel leakage into the engine oil so check the engine oil level, if high then you have fuel leakage to engine oil which is normally bad injectors, which you have already checked and replaced..
If you have any issue after gathering codes and still need assistance
then please get back to me with the reply button and not the poor or bad service rate buttons .
This way i can get back to you and suggest other options or suggest another Expert .
Kindest regards Greg

have booked it into jeep dealer for a diagnostic test tomorrow but wanted to get an idea of what problem could be as soon as possible as I am due to be driving it to spain in 7 days time? need to allocate money for repair as well? have read it could be turbo problems?

Expert:  indy-tech replied 2 years ago.
Turbo problem is a possibility, yes the Garratts are a Known issue.
The diagnostic test will confirm .
Get this done before doing this long drive as when running rich on this engine will clog the exhaust system .
The wine is a good indication of the turbo malfunctioning will burn off more oil so oil level maybe low ??
This issue could be due to the fact that after long runs the engine is switched Off with out waiting for the cool down time ,after long drive let idle for 3 minutes so the turbo can cool off then you can switch off the engine .
Hope after the diagnostic the issue is not a bad one as the turbos on this model are very expensive.
All the best Sue and need more assistence then please just come back to this page .
