I installed a program called Any Weblock onto my work laptop

This answer was rated:

I installed a program called Any Weblock onto my work laptop (running Vista Home Premium) to block sites such as facebook etc.

I entered a random password XXXXX security question I would never remember so the machine would effectively be permanently blocked.

I now need to reverse this. Can anyone tell me if there is some registry tinkering I can do to turn the blocks off? I have uninstalled the program but this makes no difference. Similarly, reinstalling it makes no difference.
Thank you for your question, my name is Richard.

It will be remaining files and registry entries that are causing this.

Can you do the following please to remove this.

ok, Click Start, Computer

Than Organise (Top), Folder and Search Options

Click View

Click Show Hidden Files, Folders and drives

Untick Hide Extensions for known file types

And uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files

Click ok.

Click Start

Type in Any Weblock in the search box

Wait for it to search and after the search finish, and delete all files listed.

Right click on the Windows Recycle bin and select empty the recycle bin.

then delete associated registry leftovers

Click Start
Type in regedit, and then click ENTER to open Windows Registry Editor.

Find out the below registry keys in the editor.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Any Weblock 1.0.0)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\program name)

(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\eg ui)

Delete those registry keys by right clicking on them and select "delete".

Click Start, Computer

Look for and delete the below folders please

C:\Program Files\Any Weblock 1.0.0

C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Any Weblock

C:\Documents and Settings\(Your USER NAME)\Application Data\Any Weblock

Restart your computer and tell me please if it is now removed.

Thank you

I can't find:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Any Weblock 1.0.0 - also looked for AnyUtils

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\program name - I assume you mean Any Weblock or AnyUtils here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\eg ui - nothing of that name under \run

Sorry, yes, Weblock

If you press F3 in the regedit window and do a search for weblock

Are any entries found Dougie?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Any Weblock_is1

Thanks Dougie,

The issue is the network system files used by the browsers for accessing files. Weblock replaced these and we are not going to be able to remove it (this is done via the SFC command which is failing).

The only way you are going to get this resolved is through a reinstall of windows sorry.

We have attempted every repair process possible, and we would need the SFC command to complete to resolve, but it is not going to be able to.

It is in effect by design from weblock, as it prevents tampering.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Okay. Thanks for your help - I do appreciate it very much.

Your most welcome Dougie.

We exhausted every option, so we know this we need to do.

If you would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
