WELCOME TO JUST ANSWER!! My name is XXXXX XXXXX today I will assist you to solve or identify your problem.

Please remove the power cord and battery from the laptop then, connect only the power cord and try to power on, let me know if you see changes on the laptop.

Screen is still dark. Underside is warm rather than hot
Do you have opened the cover and checked the rams ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Opened cover only to see what was underneath that was so hot, not moved anything, looked ok as far as I could tell
Ram should not get hot, this is not normal, it can only happens, if the mother board is short. Do you see the same light, when you connect only the power cord ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I don't know what you mean. The only light I am seeing is the light on the power button when I turn it on. Currently the battery is out, it is plugged in with the power cord
Thanks for the information. Now, the problem you are facing is definately caused due to hardware fault, and most probably the mother board is short, in your case. One thing you can try to confirm the exact fault, if it is possible then, remove the rams and clean the golden contacts on the rams with a pencil eraser and reseat them, after that check the issue, if you face the same problem then, it is the mother board which is defective. In that case there is two options left, one repairing the mother board and two replacing the mother board.

I will not recommend you to repair the mother board, becasue the repairing cost will be nearly same as the price of a new mother board and there will be no warranty for the repairing, where as you will get a full warranty for a new mother board.

If the laptop is more than three year old then, I will recommend you to go for a replacement, if there is any important data on the hard drive, then you can take it out and install it in a external hard drive enclosure and use it as an external hard drive with any other PC.

I know, you may be disapponted with this answer, but as this is a hardware fault, it is not possible for me to repair the fault, through Internet. I can only give you information, which can solve your problem.
