Customer Question

My son moved to Hong Kong on 17 August 2010 and prior to leaving he had an Orange mobile phone and broadband account. Before he moved to HK, he used his parents' (my) address for all of his mail, and his Orange statements were included in this arrangement.
The last invoice/statement we received from Orange was dated 24 August 2010 which left an outstanding balance of £9.93, which he paid in January 2011 which zero’d his account.
(I would like to add that all Orange invoices and statements were sent to his old Manchester address and then forwarded on to us).
He returned the broadband dongle to Orange and they wrote to him in November 2010 to say that they have closed his broadband account because he had not paid an
outstanding balance of £86.03, but he never received an account for this amount and it does not show on the statement supplied by Lowell. The only figures shown for that date are 9 Aug - £76.97 and 24 Aug - £208.40, both of which were paid.
On 22 January 2013, Robert got a letter from Lowell debt collectors to say that he owed £685.09 for three unpaid accounts for the use of a broadband dongle, all accrued on 24 January 2011; for a dongle he returned to Orange before he went to HK.
He never received these invoices/statements so they may still be flying around Manchester, but he had no reason to use the Orange dongle because he was supplied with a company mobile phone and laptop computer when he moved to HK.
I have suggested that the dongle was stolen and somebody has used it before Orange shut the line down.
Lowells bought the debt from Orange, but where does he stand regarding this account?
