I purchased in May a personalised number plate from a firm

This answer was rated:

I purchased in May a personalised number plate from a firm call Bossreg in Birmingham. I paid them the full amount and sent my V5. I have not received the forms from the DVLA and am told by the supplier that it takes 3/4 months due to industrial action at Swansea. I can get no info from DVLA. Have I been "had over" ot is this true. Should I use my car when I don't have a F5.

Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX I will help you with this. Please note that I am a working Solicitor and may be on and offline as I have to attend Court and meet with clients, even at weekends. As such you may not get an instant response when you reply, but rest assured I will be giving your question my immediate attention upon return. For now please let me know did you ever receive a retention certificate?

I do not know what a retention certificate is but I have received no correspondence, other than emails, from the company which I did not retain as I had no reason to. I have checked my bank statement and payment was taken on 6 June

How did you pay for the number plate?

Bank transfer

What should happen is that the seller should take the V5 and a completed form to the local DVLA office (or post to DVLA) and they will retain the number plate. Then then you are given the form and then send it off with your V5 document to the DVLA (the donor vehicle) and the plate is transferred. It does not take 3/4 months. The process should only take around 2 weeks. Please see:
