I am about to attend a disciplinary for failure to meet a deadline

Customer Question

I am about to attend a disciplinary for failure to meet a deadline imposed by my manager for failure to complete a task set. the amount of work involved is disputed. In the first e mail another employee was given the task to complete from week 13 onwards and I was asked to complete the rest of the missing information to me this meant from week 8 up to week 12.I completed this task approx. 4 hours after the deadline but the information I completed was from week 8 up to week 19 bringing everything up to date without any input from the other employee.During this time I was taken of this take and given several other projects to complete with the instruction to drop everything else and concentrate on the new project. The other employee has still not inputted any information into this and it has now fallen 6 week behind. This employee still has not been reprimanded for this. Is this sufficient to justify the late completion

Ben Jones :

Hello, my name is Ben and it is my pleasure to assist you with your question today.

Ben Jones :

Before proceeding please note that as I am a practising solicitor, I am often in and out of meetings, travelling between clients or even at court when I pick your question up. This may even occur at weekends. Therefore, I apologise in advance but there may be a delay in getting back to you and providing my advice. Please be patient and I will respond as soon as I can. You do not have to wait here and you will receive an email when I have responded. For now please let me know how long you have worked there.

Ben Jones :

Hi, not sure if you saw my initial query above - how long have you worked there for?

Ben Jones :

Hello, can you please confirm what instructions you were actually given - you said that you were told to complete the rest of the missing information but were you specifically told which weeks this covered or did you just assume what it meant? Is the employer's issue with you not doing the correct work, or the delay, or both?
