Hi, I have beden battling Sunderland councils housing department

Customer Question

Hi, I have beden battling Sunderland councils housing department for over three years now, my home is private & freehold, the council is trying to hound me out of my home, they can't use a CPO as there is no planning permision for the land.
Thry have spent over 1/2 a million of HCA money up to now & have aquired 22 out of 28 houses, the rest of us refues to be driven from our home & our land stolen.
Both houses adjoing me have damage to the rooves this was reported round about May this year ( one has a large hole in it) potentailly causing damage to my home & my loft is infested with rats.
Fly tipping has been left in the st over the weekend & is still there despite the fact it should be collected within 3 days.
I get nothing but lies & excuses from the housing officers & the leader of the council refuses to either take or return my calls.
They have so far spent over 1/2 a million aquiring 22 out of 28 houses & plan to demolish 7 at the end of November, leaving a house next to mide for stability.
I'm very worried about the strcutral impact of this on my home.
We have not yet been given the 28 days as required by law informing us of planned demolition.
I have a solicitor who specialises in this sort of thing but understand she's unable so act untill she has a copy ofthe demolition notice.
I have had two mental breakdowns some years ago & have tried to take my own life, I feel this happening again.
I am also disabled with rhumatoid arthritis & have a Bi polar disorder along with clinical depression.
Today I will be contacting the housing department agian about the damage to the roof but I just keep getting fobbed off & lied to.
I will also contact the other councilor for the area as well as the local paper.
Can you give me any advise that would help me?
The housing department has admitted liability for repair on the houses they own that are either side of mine but nothing has been done about repairs.
The track behind the gardens was left open for approx 2 years to allow anit social behaviour, fly tipping & theft from the empty houses, the have now placed boulders to block it off as their ultimate purpose has been served & there using it as an excuse to demolish 7 houses! the ledaer of the council & the cheif executive visited the St & agreed with our councilorthat the homes could be put back in to use (bearing in mind that 5 of the 7 were occupied untill the council persuaded the owners to sell to them at a knock down price of the market value, nothing was offered for the land ( the gardens are quite large)
Can you offer me any help or advise please as this is making me very poorly.

Alex Watts :

Hello my name is Alex and I will help you with this. Please note that I am a working Solicitor and may be on and offline as I have to attend Court and meet with clients, even at weekends. As such you may not get an instant response when you reply as this is not an ‘on demand’ live service, but rest assured I will be giving your question my immediate attention upon return.

Alex Watts :

Have you complained to the Chief Executives Office? Why do they want all this property please?
