Many years ago I was legally married to a UK Citizen in Malaysia,. We never hot a UK licence or notified anyone in he UK (although she did have a subsequent passport showing my/our surname). Is the marriage legal in the UK?

Yes, if the marriage was validly entered into in accordance with the laws of Malaysia, the marriage would be valid and recognised in the UK.

There is no need for the marriage to have been registered in the UK for it to be valid here.

Hope this answers your query. Can I assist further?
