Customer Question

If a man is on benefits and seeking a job, applying for up to 5 jobs a week (so far without success) and he has been offered Sunday work, say 4 hours at £7ph, does he still have to hand back all but £5 of it to the DHSS?

Thank you for your question. My name is Jo and I will try to help with this.

Does he intend to declare his income please?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Yes of course. He is an honest man.

Thank you.

Obviously he must declare this as you know and if he is on ESA then he is free to earn up to £20 a week without his benefits being affected at all.

So, in short, on my very rough calculations four hours at 7 pounds an hour would be £28 and only 8 pounds of that would be affected.

So, overall, it will be profitable for him.

Can I clarify anything for you?

He is not receiving ESA, but is receiving JSA.

But they are migrating it over to ESA in accordance with the new rules.
