What is the difference between a Lease and an Assured Shorthold

What is the difference between a Lease and an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement?

Hello and thanks for using Just Answer.

My name is ***** ***** am happy to assist you with your enquiry.

A Lease/Tenancy are in effect exactly the same, in that both grant a Tenant a right to remain in a property for a certain length of time. It is just that a short term agreement is usually referred to as a "Tenancy" whereas the word "Lease" is given to longer term agreements.

An Assured Shorthold Tenancy is a special type of Tenancy governed by the Housing Act.

I hope this assists you, and answers your question.

Kind Regards
