I work public sector company and we have been split in

Customer Question

I work for a public sector company and we have been split in half, with half of staff remaining public sector and the other half now working for a privatised sector. We still use the same building but the private sector maintains this. We have a reception which when we were all public sector we all worked it but since the service has been split the private sector now own this and the public sector no longer has any reception positions. Although because we share working in the same building and use the same reception entrance the public sector has agreed to help the private sector in this area of staffing by putting its own administration staff (as we do not hold reception posts anymore) on a Rota with the private sector staff to cover this work. Is this legal that the public sector company can make its staff cover a private sector post because we share the same building, I mean we are still two seperate company's, my contract is with my company, the public sector and don't feel it right that they are asking me to cover another company's post because they have agreed this locally but it is not in my contract to work for another company??

Ben Jones :

Hello, my name is ***** ***** it is my pleasure to assist you with your question today. Did you used to cover reception before or have any duties in relaiton to that?

JACUSTOMER-ilrngz89- :

Hi Ben yes case Administrators did (my role) under the line of any other duty as requiredfor holiday and sick cover due to staff shortages. But since we have been privatised the reception position job role no longer exists in the public sector side now as the private sector took this role position on to manage, so why should we be asked now to cover a this role when it is for another company and not my employer (just because we are still in the same building)

Ben Jones :

So even if you were asked to cover this now it would be the exact same role as you did before with the same tasks, etc? Does your contract say you could cover this in your old job?

Ben Jones :

Hi, not sure if you saw my follow up query above - if you still need help can you please get back to me with the required information, thanks
