My daughter in laws mother, has been in a violent relationship.

Customer Question

My daughter in laws mother, has been in a violent relationship. She was beaten up, and forced to sign to put the man on her deeds of her mortgage free house., he then went on to take out a loan/mortgage of 50,000 pounds, which she did not see a penny of, she is having to pay out the repayments each month which is 400 pounds, she is working all hours to try and keep up payments, leaving nothing left for food. She is worried her house will be repossessed if she doesnt make the payments, it was left to her by her parents., and she has lived in the house all her life. She has managed to get him out of the house, after years of suffering, but left to try and keep the roof over her head and that of her son who is 17, and her daughter who is 22., both of which are suffering medical mental issues due to mainly witnessing the abuse, and so on. Is there anything she can do to get him off her deeds and get this mortgage gone? She is at her wits end, and is finding it very hard to cope. I thank you for any help or advice you can give. The loan was taken out some years ago, I think around 2006. Thank you

How much is the house worth and how much is outstanding on the loan?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Hi Clare,

Thank you for your message. I should think the house is worth around £200,000, and the initial loan that he took out was 50,000. the balance is about 39,000.

Thank you.

Were they married and what was the money used for?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Hi Clare,

No they were not married. Ann inherited the house from her parents, and has lived in it all her life. She met this man and he subsequently moved in with her, she had no mortgage on her house. He turned out to be a drunk and drug addict. He beat her to sign him on to her deeds and for the loan. She did not see one penny of the money. She has no idea what or where it went. She has suffered at his hands for the past few years, and has only recently had the strength to get him out. She is struggling financially to pay this loan, as it is secured on her house and she is terrified of being homeless. She has a young son of 17 years of age who has just been taken into medical care for mental health and another daughter who is in and out of hospitals suffering with anorexia. She works all hours under the son to try and manage, and sometimes cannot afford food. She is at her wits end.

I feel what this man has done to her is totally unfair and was against her will., and she is left with the debt and the worry. Thank you for your help. Regards
