I parked at dusk on the bottom right corner of Paradise Square, Sheffield at 7.15 on an April evening, turned off and parked neatly beside a row of cars.I saw no notice, and there are no walls/barriers round the the Square. I have now read there is a notice on a high post in the centre of the Square but it is not obvious in the near dark.
I actually thought the notice was some kind of scam and ignored it. Would have had to pay £60. I now have a demand for £100, although I wrote a polite letter explaining that I couldn't see the notice from where I parked.
Do I bluff it out or grit my teeth and pay up?

No it is a private firm which runs carpark services for private clients.- in this case the lawyers and accountants ,who have offices in the Square during the day. (Vehicle Control Services Ltd of Sheffield.)
Thank you. You can ignore this then as it is a private firm. They have no legal claim such as a Council would. The only thing they can claim is in contract. In that case they need to show that there was a contract, you agreed to their terms and then they suffered a loss.
In any event any claim against you would only ever be at its highest a small claim and they could not recover legal costs etc. If they are seeking to rely on signs, these must be reasonably placed and brought to your attention. Do not be bullied from these people.

Just one thing. Do I reply to theirdemand saying I have taken advice and dont intend to pay, or just ignore it?.
