Customer Question

Hi, some time ago I instructed Santander to take a full and final payment to close a loan account with them. They only took some of the balance due and didn't inform me for many months afterwards. They then came back saying I still owed them the full balance of the debt, which I had originally told them to take and they hadn't.
Because this was there error and not mine, (I told them to take the full balance due at the time), am I still liable for this debt and if so, should I be compensated for their mistake ?
I look forward to your reply
