My daughter was doing hair colouring in private

Customer Question

My daughter was doing hair colouring for customer in private house when a drop of dye the size of 5p piece ended up on carpet.
Customer insists my daughter was at fault and would have to pay for new carpet.
My daughter counter claims that customer is to blame when she twice walked over carpet when hair was wet resulting in dye dripping onto carpet and refuses therefore to accept liability.
What rights have either party got when neither can prove/disprove who is at fault for damage to carpet?

Is this a permanent dye or could it be removed by a cleaning company?
