Artist gives paintings to gallery to sell. His work does not

Customer Question

Artist gives paintings to gallery to sell. His work does not sell at exhibitions. He is always told buyers wont buy because of economic climate. After many years he discovers his work has all along been selling well but the art gallery agents have kept it secret.
After 15 months asking to see invoices & statements of accounts without response, the artist engages a solicitor to help and for the first time gets a response from gallery.
1) the gallery managers sends a list of sales going back years without specific dates to allow artist to check on bank statements, evades giving relevant answers until artist runs out of funds to pay his solicitor.
What should the artist (pensioner) do next to retrieve his "missing" paintings?

Thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I will try to help with this.
Have they not passed on the money from the sales?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Years ago I got into arrears with studio rent. They offered help.telling me I have "friends" upstairs.,implying the 3 major shareholders assistance.

Had they notified me of a big canvas sale,it would have paid more than 2 years studio they secretly sold my work because knowing that my large canvases were selling would have made me independent.

I only realised my work was being sold for vast sums when I saw my painting prominently displayed in by major art collector on youtube.

Do you know how much they owe?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

No I do not know because they are not giving details of how much I was credited in bank a/c. I get very little as a pensioner and I have recently found out they were putting regular drips of money into my a/c to keep me just above poverty line.

there are sums they claim to have paid me but these do not reflect in my bank a/c.

my email is ***@******.***

Could you please get me in touch with a solicitor who would look at the documents I have?

Then surely they have made payments?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Yes but in a way I could not notice as the drips of money murged with my pension.

When I checked the regular figures they have been paying, the sums do not correspond to the figures my art works sell for. Also the regularity of the payments (monthly) would indicate my work was selling like hot cakes but at a fraction of the real sale price of my paintings.

in the statements of accounts they have sent me, many of the paintings are bunched together in threes or fours, then given one credit figure.

So it is impossible to know for how much each painting was sold for

What evidence to you have of the sale price?
