This answer was rated:

I have been caught doing 79mph on a dual carridge way (70mph limit) i understood there was a 10% +2mph tolerance. I have been offered a speed awareness course mildly pissed off!! I drive 40-50k and am very aware of saftey but perhaps not enough!! are my thoughts right about tolerance or should I shut up
Thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I will try to help with this.
I'm afraid you should take the course.
GATSO cameras are generally set to a higher speed than the limit to allow for inaccuracies but generally they are more reliable at higher speeds.
In any event, 79mph would be in excess of the tolerance limit.
Do the course. If you contest this at court it will cost thousands and you will probably lose. You do not want to put them in a position where they have to call expert evidence as that will rack up costs hugely.
Sorry but I can only give you truthful information.
Can I clarify anything for you?
