My wife had a car accident 2 years ago - no one injured but other party suffered vehicle damage. My wife disputed liability. Our insurer informed me I had not told them of my wife's recent speeding fine - true, I had forgotten I needed to do so when renewing the policy - oversight on my part. Our insurers understood that my wife disputed liability, but said they admitted liability anyway, and would settle the claim, but also decided to cancel my policy. Today I received letter from our insurer's solicitors requesting repayment of costs - £1300. I have 7 days to pay. Am I legally obliged to settle, given that (a) my wife disputed liability and still does so (b) our insurers said they would settle the claim (c) the accident and settlement happened 2 years ago and no correspondence or claim from our insurers till now?
