We were wondering if we had cause to complain. Back in July
Customer Question
We were wondering if we had cause to complain.
Back in July we found an ingress of water in an area in our house but didn't know where it was coming from so we call British Gas (who we have an insurance with.) who came out on the 17th July found the are the leak was coming from and made a hole in the wall and said he was not going any further because he thought it was asbestos the leak was coming from behind boxing of off pipes. Our house was built in the early 1970's. British gas engineer took samples which eventually after 10 days came back positive for Blue Asbestos. I rang our house insurance providers which is Nat West. Who sent a loss adjuster out the same afternoon, which was Monday27th July then on the 30th July they sent an operative from a firm called Polygon who took samples again. In the mean time fungus started going inside and the wall outside mould stated appearing. Then the smell of damp stated. Beginning of August I went down with a chest infection, (I have mild COPD) this would not clear up so on my third visit to my GP he suggested we move out. In this time we had had a couple of operatives come out saying this need to be done then nothing would happen. We where moved to one hotel on the 29th August 2015. where we spent 3 nights then had to move to another hotel. Where if we hadn't intervened we would have had to move one hotel to another. We have been very lucky in that we have been able to stay in one hotel near where we live. The works started on the 21st September when the bitumen floor tiles in the clock room where removed and the pipe to the washing machine was broken by the operative taking the tiles out we where told they would repair it when things where put back. The asbestos was removed on the 14th,15th & 16th October, by Aspect then on the 21st Polygon sent in their inspector in to see how many machines they needed to put in, he pull the wet carpet back to find what he thought where asbestos tiles so more samples had to be taken and we had to wait for the results from them, which came back positive they where removed and the drying machines went in 13th November when the operative came out on Friday to supposedly take the machines out it was found that the pipe which had been broken when the tiles from the cloakroom had been taken out had been leaking since and the floor and wall in that corner is wet so the machines have had to go back on for another fortnight. The repairs and decorating will still have to be carried out and the insurance want us to go back in to the house before that happens but we are trying to get our GP to write a letter because the dust and paint will be detrimental to my health. Our insurance is covering the cost off having our dogs with a dog sitter, our hotel bill and out of pocket expense's and we are grateful for this but the this could all been avoided if the work had been carried out more quickly I know a licence for the removal of the asbestos. We are having to cope with our adult daughter who has complex medical and mental health issues. We were wondering if we had any come back on what has happened to us.
Kind regards
