I have purchased an item from a seller on ebay and subsequently found that the item was originally purchased using a stolen credit card.
I have reported this to the police but they say that as I purchased them in good faith have not committed a crime and that I am under no obligation to return the goods to the original retailer. Is this correct?
Hello my name is ***** ***** I will help you.
That's not quite right. In order to sell something you need to have good title. If the seller doesn't have good title then the buyer can be the new owner.
Given the card was stolen then title did not pass to the seller which means it can not pass to you. Whilst you have not committed any offence you can be made to return it.
I am sorry if this is not the answer you want and certainly not the one I want to give you, but I have a duty to be honest.
Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?
