I've received a letter from a law firm acting for TCYC,LLC, a Las Vegas company, alleging illegal file sharing by myself or users of my computer for a film in May 2013. I have no knowledge of this film, neither have any family members, and will have to deny their assertion that this film was downloaded on my computer. They have obtained my name and address, apparently, after 'forensic computer analysis' and have obtained an order of the court to do so.
They are clearly seeking compensation for infringement of copyright, and the only defence I can put forward is that I have no knowledge at all of the breach they refer to.
I don't know this film, have never heard of I, and have never downloaded it.
I have to respond within 28 days, and would appreciate your advice as to how to do so.
Hello my name is ***** ***** I will help you.
Did you and how much are they seeking please?

They have not asked for money yet. If your "did you" means did we do it, the answer has to be no, though one can't provide evidence of something that didn't happen.Hope this helps
You can ignore it - they have no jurisdiction in the UK.
If anything did happen they would have to sue you in the UK and even then any claim for £10,000 or below would be a small claim, so costs are not recoverable.
As they are based in Las Vegas there is simply no jurisdiction here in the UK. Indeed even suing between states in the USA is hard enough but this is international.
Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?

Thanks AlexI like that answer. The only other thing that might make a difference is that their letter has come from Hatton and Berkeley of 43 Berkeley Square, London W1J AP, though the letter is headed TCYK, LLC (of Las Vegas)Funnily enough, TCYK are the initials of the film in question, "The Company You Keep". Perhaps they are trying to recoup their losses for a film nobody wanted to see!!Anyway, Many thanks for your helpEd Slater
Indeed. They would have to sue you in the UK and they can't head it LLC in the UK because in the UK we dont have LLC's!
Does that help?

I did appreciate your early response to my enquiry, and have given the 5 star rating for your service. I hope you get paid soon!
My problems are not over however, since these people are going to bother me for money yet, but I think its a scam, and I need to do some enquiries on these organisations then probably call on Trading Standards.
I may have to seek legal representation in the end, if they continue to harass me, but that's for the future.
So, thank you for your help, and have a happy Christmas.
Happy Christmas to you and good luck.
