Hi all,
When I moved into my flat in Aril 2014, I agreed with my energy provider to set up a monthly direct debit for £80 which would be reviewed periodically and possibly adjust according to my consumption. I specifically arranged for the money to leave my account on the 2nd of each month, as this is the day my salary reaches my account, and I didn't have to worry about having sufficient funds in my account each month.
I have recently received a letter addressed to somebody else and to 'or the occupier' from a lawyer's office stating that I have an outstanding bill of £710.09, and that they are filing an application for warrant of entry at the magistrates court. My options, they advised, were to pay as soon as possible or they will come to my flat and seize my possessions.
Needless to say, I was terribly shocked and scared at the same time. I didn't cancel that direct debit, but when I checked my statements I noticed that the money hasn't been collect since February 2014. I rang the bank to see what the issue was, and they confirmed that neither them nor I have cancelled the direct debit, but rather the energy provide haven't collected the money for some reason. I am now waiting for a letter from the bank stating what has happened.
where do I stand now? I definitely don't have the amount they have asked for, and I don't see why I should be penalised for their mistake.
Kind Regards
