Work "vehicle policy" states tools not to be left in vehicle

Customer Question

Work "vehicle policy" states tools not to be left in vehicle overnight.
They then booked me into hotel for a week to work and, because I had nowhere to keep tools, they were left in van. Van got broken into. £3k if my tools and £1k if work tools stolen. Work won't pay for mine and may make me reimburse their loss.
Can I take them to small claims court and will I have a good case ?
