What would the charges be for common assault

Sure. Sorry for the delay I have been in Court all day. What were the injuries please?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
A scratch and a bit of a swollen lip

I don't have any convictions. Only happened in self defence

Ok - will you plead not guilty and raise self defence?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will .. what will happen either way?

If you plead guilty you are likely to get a fine or a community order.

If you plead not guilty and raise the defence of self-defence, it would for the Police to show that you did not use reasonable self defence.

You do not have to prove you are innocent, the Police have to show that you are guilty. The court will then decide who they believe.

Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?

Thank you for your help. I feel a little more relaxed now. Thank you
