Customer Question

Good Day
I live in the west of Scotland, On my property BT has got wires running everywhere thru my garden and property line attach to my actual "house" poles overhead drooping wires in the middle of the garden wires are sagging I have requested this for removal several times
for many reason, potential hazard and safety issues, has well has building approval
I have also paid BT "£200" for them to come out and review, after their review i received a package the overall cost for "BT" to remove and run this all underground would cost us£40,000 I find this un- realistic and frankly praying on the poor taking advantage of those in rural villages, we are the home owners with no control
we have had planning approved over 2 yrs now and cannot move forward and feel stuck has we have no control over our property
This is a serious matter has i've written several letters and visited their office in gGlasgow and was told i had to go to England headquarters with my concerns
I have also gone to my local MP and my Attorney who suggest i take it further has my deed does not state it must remain there for ever
please advise me
thank you

I am a solicitor in the West o Scotland. I will try to help you with this. How long have the wires been there? What is the planning matter you can't move forward on. What do your title deeds say about the wires, if anything? Have you asked them for a breakdown of the £40000. In passing I would comment that I lived I a rural property myself and had the same problem. BT transferred the cables underground in a day and the cost was a few hundred pounds to dig a channel put in a pipe and reroute.

Thanks for your response,
Its's been there over 50 years, however the property has change of hands 3x over the years there is no records to indicate original owners sign up for instalation for lifetimeSurely we are new owners we must have some rights interms of what is on our property

Do the title deed provide for passage for cable and wires?
