My daughter took out a broadband contract in 2011 with Talk Talk for a property in Stirling, Scotland. In July 2014 she tried to cancel the contract. The customer services rep tried to stop her cancelling and suggested freezing the account for the next tenant. My daughter asked if she would have any liability she was informed that she would not. She continued to be billed and phoned Talk Talk, received a verbal apology and was reimbursed. My daughter emigrated to Australia in Sept 2014. We subsequently discovered Talk Talk was continuing to accrue debt. We wrote to their debt collectors in May 2025 advising that the account had been cancelled and that the sum was neither owing nor due. In April 2016 Lowell Group purchased Talk Talk aged debts and have been pursuing my daughter. For logistic reasons my wife has been corresponding from my address in England. We have stated that the contract was cancelled and that the amount is owing and due.
I would like to know the following:
1. Can Lowell bring enforcement action at my address in the UK and take my possessions?
2. Can Lowell rely on incorrect file notes from Talk Talk?
3. Any general advice you can give?
