My mother's will leaves a fixed amount to each grandchild

This answer was rated:

My mother's will leaves a fixed amount to each grandchild without naming them. One grandchild has died. Should she still inherit?

Thank you for your question

My name is Clare

I shall do my best to help you but I need some further information first

Did the Grandchild die before or after your mother?

What is the exact wording of the gift to the grandchildren

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The child dies before my mother.
"I give the following specific pecuniary legacy free of tax and cost of transfer
(a) The sum of £1000 to each of my grandchildren...."

anything at the end of that entire paragraph

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It continues: "to be held on trust until and released to each individual grandchild when they attain the age of twenty one years"

Did the Grandchild leave any children?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. When she died everything was bequeathed to her brother.

Then the gift from her Grandmother simply fails and the money remains in the Estate

I hope that this is of assistance - please ask if you need further details
