We are in a commercial building that we kind of inherited

Customer Question

We are in a commercial building that we kind of inherited from a holding company that went into liquidation. We paid the rent to the landlord for the last two years and still in the building but there is a rent review in November and we would like to move into a larger and better situated building.
The Landlord has never tried to reassign the lease to us or discuss our tenancy. Can you tell me what our legal position is please?

Hello my name is ***** ***** I will help you with this.

What was the length of your original tenancy?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Our tenancy was on an informal basis with the company that went into liquidation,

Ok - you have what is called a tenancy at will.

This means you have no security and it can be ended at any time by giving notice.

In short you need a formal lease to secure your standing there.

If you do not or the landlord does not give you one, you have a tenancy at will.

These can be ended at any time

Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?
