I was driving and approached a red light. It had turned amber so I continued rather than stopping, and had noticed the flash of what I assume was the red light camera, as I was slowing down as I approached the lights. Given the red/***** *****ghts is it still considered a red light infringement? Would I have a case should I appeal, or would it be best to accept the verdict of the impending notice if it indeed arrives?

I am sorry but that would be an offence.

S36 RTA is committed whether you cross a red or an ***** *****ght.

The only time you can cross an ***** *****ght is if failing to do so would cause an accident - usually, for instance, when you are being heavily tailgated.

At all other times you are required to stop.

I am sorry but there is no way around it.

Can I clarify anything for you?

Sorry - just one more question - what is the typical fine and penalty?

It will just be 3 points and a fine of £100.
