My son is minor and he has been asked to attend a police

This answer was rated:

My son is minor and he has been asked to attend a police station to do taped interview, I have called a number left by the police at to enquire what is this about but was told that they could discuss the matter with me the only information that was given was that it related to my son's bank account that was suddenly closed by the bank with out notice
I have also been told that he was not under arrest nor helping them with their enquires, when asked if he were a suspect I did not get a clear response
I would like to know is it legal to record a minor when no charges have been brought and can he compelled to do the recorded interview
Please can you let me know as parent what can I do legally as I do wish for my son enter the system

Yes, it is legal and in fact they must under PACe record him.

They are not going to tell you anything over the phone for two reasons. Firstly that would border on an interview which is unlawful save for under tape recording. Secondly some people would use the information to start concealing evidence.

If he is under 17 then they will need an appropriate adult to interview him but unless he attends the interview they will just come and arrest him. They don't like to do that because it is labour intensive but it is the only option with people who won't attend voluntarily. Can I clarify anything for you? Jo
