Hi my question is regarding debt I owe after the lender has passed away.
A friend lent me £30k and at the date of his death I owed £5k. His partner reviewed emails and found an email from myself regarding the debt owed to him. I received a letter from his solicitor demanding full and immediate repayment.
I should clarify my friend approached me to lend the money on an informal and flexible basis due to the nature of my seasonal job.
There was no formal contract and just a verbal agreement to borrow and repay the money.
I assumed the debt died with the lender.
Am I still liable to repay this debt? The only proof of the loan was an email I sent stating I owed £5k still.
