My sister Valerie aged 83 bought a house with her daughter

Customer Question

My sister Valerie aged 83 bought a house with her daughter Sue. There was a verbal agreement that the house was jointly owned by them. Later Susan married Ron. Sue has recently died. Does Ron have any claim over 50% of the home?
Thank you

Thank you for your question

My name is Clare

I shall do my best to help you but I need some further information first

How was the purchase funded and was there any written record of the agreement?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There was no written agreement, and the house was purchased 50/50 by Sue and Valerie. We were concerned that half the house might go to Ron as he is Sue's next of kin. Thank you for your prompt reply.RegardsPaul

So in fact the house is already held in joint names
