Acting as guarantor for my son's rent the contract was for

Customer Question

Acting as guarantor for my son's rent the contract was for one year and any extension to that period should be discussed with the guarantor. Unbeknown to me there was an extension after the year and the rent was not paid. After three months had passed I was informed by the landlady that the rent had not been paid and I am liable for the shortfall. As I was not notified of the extension to rent where do I stand legally?
